Deep Dive
Hey there,
Sauna’s are one of the most researched health topics over the last topic.
One recent discovery found that sauna usage can spike growth hormone levels by up to 1,600%.
Woah.
Growth hormones are key drivers in some of the most important health factors:
Muscle growth, fat loss, recovery.
So, where does this come from?
Lets dive into it.
The study selected men from different ages to sit in a Finnish sauna at 161 degrees, for 15 minutes.
Prior to entering the sauna, the researchers recorded 2 µg/L in the subjects growth hormone levels.
Afterwards, it shot up to 5 µg/L. in just 30 minutes
The hormone that then produces Growth Hormone production (I know, its a lot of hormones), quadrupled just 5 minutes after the session.
So, essentially the study discovered that using a sauna, directly boosts you growth hormone levels.
This hormone will help your muscles grow, and allow you to recover better.
However, the hormone increase only applied to younger men.
These numbers only applied to men within the 31-46 year old range (men <31 yrs old were not tested).
The 49-66 year old range experienced no significant increase (don’t worry, there are other sauna benefits too).
But the Sauna-Hormone relationship doesn’t end there.
Another study, tracked the saunas relationship with the endocrine system.
Turns out, there’s massive implications there as well.
The study finds that the stress hormone, Noradrenaline, actually increases during sauna sessions.
But only those who are used to it.
This might seem counterintuitive, when you think about how relaxing the sauna is.
But it can actually be very useful.
When the hormone Noradrenaline is released, it causes blood vessels to dilate.
This improves circulation, allowing oxygen and nutrients to reach tissues,
Which helps with muscle recovery, reduces inflammation, and promotes overall cardiovascular health.
So, the sauna benefits simply don’t stop.
This is even more encouraging to young men, who should look to hop in the sauna a few days a week post-workout
Trust me, it will move you closer to your goals.
